Although rebate incentives are a good thing, what other part of this program is going to inspire consumers to participate? I think people are really apprehensive about this program. People need to understand why their homes should be energy efficient and what it means for them.

A roof leakage is one of the most common challenges faced by homeowners. When the roof leaks, a variety of problems can follow, from infestations of mold and mildew to damaged foundations. Many times a roof leakage can be repaired

Being a custom home builder in Gainesville, GA I have recently come to realize that you must do things to stand out to potential buyers/builders. Simply building a nice home is no longer enough in this tough economic climate. Reading about things like colored concrete and creative combinations is helpful as I pursue a healthy business for 2010.

I work with clay roof tile . Beautiful, durable and Energy efficient. My customers usually pick santafe tile for the colors (which do not fade) and the quality. Roofing tiles protect the underlayment.

A site that explains this pretty well as it applies to windows and doors is http://myenergytax.com. It's clearly slanted toward choosing a door, but it still does a better job of putting it into layman's terms than the government sites.

Wow great info I believe that when we put our minds to it we can make real changes in the way we spend our energy. Just like the boy taking hold of the wind me and my brothers built an electric car when we were kids back on the farm. Take a look by clicking my name and at the top of my site hold the mouse over Healthy Living and then click on Outdoor, then click on electric car. Cool looking clip of us driving it. It is amazing what we all can accomplish when we put forth some effort but I would like to point our that it is better with good knowledge supporting your efforts. William Kamkwamba used knowledge from the library. Me and my brothers used our fathers knowledge.

Thanks for the comment. You might want to check out PennWell's annual Guide to US Combined Heat and Power Companies. It's a book that I authored and update annually. PennWell distributes it far and wide to get the word out about CHP projects. Another good souce is Cogeneration and Onsite Power Production magazine, an international magazine that is published six times annually. I have an article in the July issue "Prospects for CHP in North America: states are still the biggest CHP boosters."

Elisa, when you say we've all heard about CHP for factories, etc., it's definitely great that you know about it -- and that you've profiled Tom Casten of Recycled Energy Development, the real leader in this field. Still, we need to keep spreading the word, because not enough people understand the sheer magnitude of the potential here. DOE and EPA estimates suggest CHP and waste energy recovery could slash U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. That’s as much as if we took every passenger vehicle off the road. Meanwhile, costs would fall due to increased efficiency. We should be doing much more of this.

Disclosure: I'm associated with Recycled Energy Development (recycled-energy.com) so I'm not an unbiased observer. But the reason I'm involved is the massive opportunity.

Carl that's hilarious! Thanks for the chuckle!

Carl, how much experience have you had with pervious crete? We have a ton of expansive soils here in Central MS and I'm concerned that feeding H2O into the ground could be trouble. I'm thinking it would be advisable to layer the sub-surface with a membrane in an attempt to help control absorption and expansion? Your thoughts?
